One thing that's really honorable from Savage Grace is that when the song gets to a solo, they do not overextend or stretch out that solo until the end of time, which a lot of power metal bands do. Very clean drum tone and a clearly audible bass compliment the very well-written riffs of Chris Logue. These melodies are very unique, interesting, and brilliant, such as that bridge vocal melody in "After The Fall From Grace", or the chorus of "The Age Of Innocence".īesides the great songwriting skills, the rest of the band is very good as well. It is not like you heard these melodies a thousand times before, and it's just another recycling of the melodies of Helloween or Running Wild. Songwriter Chris Logue did a great job at writing melodies that are very unique. While it is true that the record does not sound as energetic and wild and does not want to set the world on fire as much as Master of Disguise, the songwriting skills improved. There are no weaknesses on the record, but the highlights are definitely the epic "We Came, We Saw, We Conquered", and my personal favorite, "After The Fall From Grace", which I think is the single most beautiful metal song ever. From beginning to end, the album is very colorful and provides a great range of different paces, song lengths, so the release never gets boring. This is one of the best heavy/speed/power metal albums of albums out there. The message is different, the atmosphere of the record is different, but it works just as well in its own world. This album, the sophomore effort of Savage Grace is just as good, but in a completely different way. Even though the production is not very good, you can tell that the songwriting is very sophisticated and masterful. It is an essential speed metal record, which unfortunately is not as well known as it should be.
It is wild, ambitious, and most importantly, very well-written. The first album of Savage Grace, Master of Disguise is an absolute masterpiece.
